Jakarta - Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono had meetings with the World Water Council President Loïc Fauchon in Jakarta to discuss final preparations for the 10th World Water Forum 2024 which will take place in Bali on 18-25 May 2024.

"We discussed preparations for the 10th World Water Forum which will be held in Bali in May 2024 under the theme of 'Water for Shared Prosperity'," said Retno via her official social media account, Monday (25/3).

She further said that Indonesia was looking forward to the opportunity to be the host country of the 10th World Water Forum. She hoped that the Forum would bring positive impacts on sustainable water management and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"We ask for your prayers and support for the success of the 10th World Water Forum," said Retno.

Previously, World Water Council President Loïc said that among the seven billion people in the world, as many as three to four billion people do not have access to toilets, equality gaps and lack of rights to water and sanitation. Therefore, the 10th World Water Forum is expected to produce several high-level commitments. For example, how to finance and regulate air, as well as concrete solutions that can be shared with people around the world.

“We want to be useful. This means that after this forum, people who do not have access to water can get water, sanitation, toilets, and are also able to fight water-related disasters," said Loïc in an exclusive interview with CNBC Indonesia in Jakarta, March 25 2024.

The 10th World Water Forum 2024 will present three main processes including thematic, regional and political. In the thematic process, currently there are around 700 international and national organizations involved in presenting solutions to thematic issues. Then, regional processes covering various regions of the world, as well as political processes involving state leaders.

“We have a regional process that concerns various regions of the world because the solution for Latin America is not the same as the solution for Indonesia and other countries. We also carry out the political process. "This means that we will discuss with leaders at all levels, be they heads of state, ministers, members of parliament, mayors and river basin authorities," said Loïc.

"We will also propose commitments and solutions to them so they can implement these solutions in their respective regions," he continued.

Regarding the progress of preparations for the 10th World Water Forum, several things have been done, including sending invitation letters to 43 heads of state/government and 5 leaders of international organizations including the European Union, UNSG, World Bank, IMF and UNGA.

So far Indonesia has received several official confirmation from several countries regarding their presence at the 10th World Water Forum 2024. Indonesia hopes that through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, through its diplomatic channels, it can continue to support the realization of participation from high-ranking officials in the forum.

The 10th World Water Forum is expected to produce four concrete results which include the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience, mainstreaming Integrated Water Resources Management for Small Islands, establishing August 27 as World Lake Day, through a UNGA resolution and other related concrete projects with water.
