Indonesia and World Water Council Prepare the Inter-Parliamentary Discussion Agenda for the Upcoming 10th World Water Forum

Deputy Chairman of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the 10th World Water Forum also as Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (MPWH) Basuki Hadimuljono and President of the World Water Council (WWC)  Loïc Fauchon held a meeting with the Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency of the Indonesia house of Representative (BKSAP DPR RI) Fadli Zon and Deputy Chairman of BKSAP DPR RI Putu Supadma Rudana in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/10/2023).

Basuki Hadimuljono said that the World Water Counci and the National Organizing Committee of the 10th World Water Forum called for the support of the DPR RI in developing the agenda for the Inter-parliamentary discussion on Water at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali next year.

He said, "In today's meeting, we conveyed our messages concerning the leadership of DPR RI, through its BKSAP, in the upcoming meetings with parliaments from all over the world, specifically for discussions on global water-related challenges. We also expressed our gratitude for the enthusiastic on global water-related challenges. We also expressed our gratitude for the enthusiastic welcome given by the Chairman of BKSAP Mr. Fadli Zon and steps that will be taken by the BKSAP DPR RI."

Thematic, Regional, and Political Processes


The World Water Forum is the largest forum in the water sector involving various stakeholders, including governments, and non-governmental organizations. The Forum consists of three pillars, namely Thematic, Regional and Political processes. The relevant issues raised at the World Water Forum require strong commitment from various parties.

 Therefore, World Water Council President Loïc Fauchon believed that one of the most important stakeholders in the political process is the Parliament. "Parliament plays a major role in drafting legislation and approving budgets in the water sector, as well as monitoring its developments. Therefore with the parliamentary participation in this World Water Forum, we hope to strengthen political commitment from parliaments throughout the world in order to ensure shared prosperity in the water sector," said Loïc Fauchon.

The call for leadership of BKSAP DPR RI to parliamentary meetings at the 10th World Water Forum gained a positive response. The Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI Fadli Zon said, " This is a relevant proposal since parliament is responsible for the making of regulations and budgets. We will further discuss this proposal with the inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) based in Geneva at a meeting in Angola on 23-27 October 2023."

As the host of the forthcoming 10th World Water Forum, Indonesia has carried out several political processes including an agreement with UNESCO for the Ministerial level process and with UCLG for the City Government level process. Most recently, at the International Networks on Basin Organizations (INBO) for a political process at the River Basin level.

Furthermore, in preparation for the 10th World Water forum, the Indonesian Government will organize the 2nd Stakeholders Consultation Meeting (SCM) on 12-13 October 2023 in Bali with an inclusive process of thematic, regional and political processes.

Also present at the meeting, Secretary of the MPWH Mohammad Zainal Fatah, Director General of Water Resources Bob Arthur Lombogia, and the Secretariat of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the 10th World Water Forum also as Special Advisor to the Minister for the Minister for Technology, Industry and the Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja.
