Partnership and Participation In Water Management

Academics: Water Management Requires Collaboration of Various Parties

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- Professor of Brawijaya University, Pijoto Tri Juwono said, to solve the problem, the roleof all layers of society is also needed, especially in encouraging the government and the private sector to build a dam.

"One of the pillars is that we must collaborate and include participation from all communities. This principle must be based on available resources. In the future, the number of needs will increase, but availability will be relatively constant, so we must close this gap with various effort that are now special dialogue with the theme "Water for shared Prosperity-Towards the 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali" organized by the ministry of public Works and Public Housing bin collaboration with CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (6/12/22).

Pitojo said, there are currently insufficient dams in indonesia. Until the end of 2024, the number of dams in indonesia will only be around 280.

This number is very low when compared to other countries, such as India which now has  1,200 dams, Japan with 3,000 dams, Korea with 4,000 dams, the United States with 5,000 dams, and even China which already has 11,000 dams.

"Is it enough to build this much? Of course not. Compared to the other countries, Indonesia is very far away. At the end of 2024, there will only be aroud 280 dams. Meanwhile, we have so many rivers," he said.

if there is a dam, he continued, the water that falls from the sky can be storedand collected in the reservoir before finally flowing into the sea, and the aspect of availability will be fulfilled.

Futhermore, the aspect of affordanility, which meansthe community wherever they live, the economic conditions and their ability to access water.

also, for sustainability, the community must be able to obtain and have an abundance of water not only during the rainy season, but also during the dry season.

"Year after year, in the future the function of water time must continue," he said.

Therefore, collaboration is the most important keyword in overcoming water problems in this nation. It becomes a necessity, because managing water cannot only be done with the government's budget. Therefore, all parties must open this space for collaboration.

"First, sharing roles with all parties, academics, comodities, then business entities. Second, not only enough various roles, but creating space for innovation in financing. Not only the government, but also stakeholders," said Pitojo.

if there is none, Pitojo said that efforts and state expenditure would be very difficult in the future.

"Therefore, collaboration is a must. We can guarantee community access, and welfare is the keyword," he concluded.
