A workshop on water security was held on 19 and 20 December 2019 at the Diamniadio ministerial sphere (Dakar - Senegal). The theme focused on water security: a major challenge to achieve SDOs, policies and governance of water in Senegal. The workshop was chaired by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr. Serigne Mbaye THIAM. He welcomed this initiative and called on the various stakeholders to strengthen cooperation on the issue of sustainable water resources management in order to provide a viable response to the well-being of local populations.
Jointly organized by Poland, Senegal and OECD, the workshop invited the numerous participants to think about water resource management in a circular, connected and holistic perspective in order to respond to the major contemporary and future challenges of water. During the workshop, water governance mechanisms were scrutinised through a cross section of Senegal, Poland and the OECD.
These two days of exchanges allowed to take stock of the current situation, to identify opportunities for joint actions to secure water for the development of the country, to articulate the results of the exchanges in the form of contributions to the preparatory work for the 9th World Water Forum that Senegal and the World Water Council are organizing in Dakar in March 2021.
