The President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Mr. Macky Sall, talked with His Holiness Pope Francis on May 4, 2020. It was a constructive meeting during which President Macky Sall welcomed "their convergence of views on debt cancellation and the response to the pandemic through his call for the universality of prayer, fraternity and solidarity".
Twenty-eight years after Pope John Paul II's visit to Dakar, President Macky Sall renewed to His Holiness the invitation to pay an official visit to Senegal. "I am delighted with the positive response to the invitation for the Vatican's participation in the World Water Forum (22 - 27 March 2021)," President Sall said. A Summit of Heads of State and international organizations will be organized during the Forum.
The President of the Republic also stresses that "the conflicts in the world and the crisis linked to Covid-19 show to what extent we must remain mobilized so that humankind and humanity are at the heart of priorities at the national and global levels".
