OMVS, strategic partner of the 9th World Water Forum : this was symbolized by the signing on 20 June 2019 at the Diamniadio International Conference Center of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River and the Republic of Senegal. 2 parties were represented respectively by the OMVS High Commissioner, Mr. Hamed Diane Ségéga, and the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation of Senegal, Mr. Serigne Mbaye Thiam. Both parties seized the opportunity of the official kick-off ceremony of the Forum, to materialize their willingness to collaborate in the preparation of the next World Water Forum whose organization was entrusted to the State of Senegal.

The said protocol details the commitments made on both sides, those of the OMVS giving priority to supporting the priority theme "Cooperation", because of its recognized expertise in the concerted management of a shared watercourse. : "OMVS, as a central strategic partner in this priority, is committed to playing a leadership role and supporting Senegal in mobilizing the resources needed to lead the working group and support projects in the region. framework of the Dakar Initiative 2021 "says the text.

Remember that the World Water Forum is the largest water event in the world; it is organized every three years by the World Water Council, an international organization that brings together all those interested in the theme of water. The World Water Forum is part of the global collaborative process on water-related issues, providing relevant policy and decision-makers with the only international forum for debate and expert input.

The Dakar 2021 Forum is the ninth World Water Forum, the first to be held in sub-Saharan Africa.

The OMVS, an active member of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) and a founding member of the African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO, of which it is in charge of the Permanent Technical Secretariat) had to be at the heart of the preparation of this event. global scale. Aware of the stakes, the OMVS has set up an organizing committee headed by Mr. Fawzi Bedredine, whose main role will be to actively support the Committee in charge of the Organization created by Senegal.
