Sign the Framework Agreement, Indonesian Government Ready to Host the 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali

Bali – Being appointed as the host for 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali, the Indonesian government has prepared a National Organizing Committee (NCO) that will be determined through a Presidential Decree.

National Organizing Committee chaired by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan, he is also the Chairman of the National Water Resources Council. NCO is also supported by Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono as the Daily Chairperson and Bali Governor I Wayan Koster as Deputy of Daily Chairperson. The three of them as representatives of the Indonesian Government signed the 10th World Water Forum Framework Agreement, in conjunction with the International Steering Committee (ISC) Bureau Meeting with World Water Council (WWC) President Loic Fauchon.

The 10th World Water Forum Framework Agreement is a guideline to organize the activities implementation that have been intensively discussed and agreed upon by the Indonesian Government and World Water Council. 

Coordinating Minister Luhut expects that with the selection of Indonesia as the host country at the previous World Water Forum activity in Senegal, last April 2022, the next 10th World Water Forum 2024 will be a positive event to find solutions to various problems in the water sector.

“The Indonesian Government expects that the 10th World Water Forum 2024 can be an excellent opportunity to share experiences and good practice, to develop policy priority and thus we can find best solutions for various problems in the water sector. Moreover, the 10th World Water Forum 2024 can be a dialogue platform for policymakers, regional, thematic and young generations,” Coordinating Minister Luhut said.

“President Joko Widodo met World Water Council President Loic Fauchon in Bali. The WWC President asked President Jokowi to be a messenger about the 10th World Water Forum 2024 to the G20 country members. Water policy shall be a top priority,” Coordinating Minister Luhut added.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Government has announced the 1st and 2nd World Water Forum Announcement through National Stakeholders Forum to discuss the “Water for Shared Prosperity” theme and subtheme that will elaborate with WWC members.

“After signing the Framework Agreement between World Water Council and Indonesian Government, we are ready to host the 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali effectively according to the timeline and agreement with WWC,” Minister Basuki emphasized.

Minister Basuki explained that, Indonesian Government is preparing the 1st Announcement of the 10th World Water Forum 2024 to the international community, which will also be the Kick-off Meeting in February 2023, together with the launch of 10th World Water Forum 2024 website and the first opening of the registration process.

Lastly, Minister Basuki thanked WWC for the support and trust so that Indonesia could become the host country in organizing the 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali.

“Thank you for the support and trust, we will try to be the best host for this special event. Moreover, it is also an honour for us to welcome WWC members in Bali,” said Minister Basuki.

The 10th World Water Forum is the biggest international event for water stakeholders. It is agreed that the 10th World Water Forum will be held on 18 to 24 May 2024 with a target of 10,000 delegate and 100,000 participants (include participant, water related exhibition visitors and SMEs) from 172 countries consist of the elements of Government, parliament, private sector, academics, practitioners, associations, and the community at national and international levels.

Also present during the meeting, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Mohammad Zainal Fatah, Director General of Water Resources Jarot Widyoko, Expert Staff of the Minister of Public Works and Housing for Technology, Industry and Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja , Expert Staff to the Minister of Public Works and Housing for Water Resources Arie Setiadi Moerwanto and Firdaus Ali, World Water Forum 10th Asia Pacific Regional Director Kim Yoon Jin, and Project Officer World Water Council Asia Pacific Bureau Kevin Geronimo.
